The Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo has visited the works being carried out for the Isopu Recreational Park, Nadur.

During his visit to the Isopu Tower, the Minister explained that apart from the Recreational Park, there are also two projects planned for coastal and country walks,

Minister Refalo explained how these related projects “are part of a holistic plan of the Ministry for Gozo to improve the infrastructure of the island.”

The Isopu Tower and quarry project includes the development of a recreation area for the family. Some of the materials to build the infrastructure will be collected from the valleys. Rubble walls will be built, trees planted, and an area established for collecting rain water. This project alone will cost € 367,000, the Minister said.

A project on Rural Walks and Trails in Gozo, was also announced by the Minister, at a cost of € 850,000 and will be financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

The project is made up of four country walks, three in Gozo and one in Comino. The walks and trails will be aimed at providing an educational experience as well as recreational enjoyment for visitors. The Minister said that they will also help to attract tourists in the shoulder months, usually a slow period where tourism is concerned.

“The third project consists of the construction of four coastal walks close to Gozo’s beaches, which will be made accessible with the use of nearby public transport, therefore giving everyone the opportunity to see the value and beauty of the beaches of Gozo,” Dr Refalo said that this project will cost € 9,200.

“These three projects will further improve the existing facilities of the island of Gozo in sustainable development. The aim is to find a balance between economic development, work and recreation and the preservation of the environment,” Dr Refalo concluded.
