Citadella Masterplan and Banca Giuratale RestorationThe Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo. together with the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds, Dr Ian Borg, have visited the Citadella and Banca Giuratale in Victoria to see the works in progress. The Citadella project is co-financed by the European Union with a total budget of € 14.5 million.

Work has already been completed on the restoration of facades of the Folklore Museum, the Chapel of St. Joseph and Medieval Arches, these works are part of a project that will lead to the restoration of all of the facades of the historic buildings in the Citadel.

Work has also started on the reconstruction of the roads and paths of the Citadel as well as the installation of new services which will all be routed underground.

In the coming months the facades of the Court and the Governor ‘s Palace, the Natural Science Museum, the Old Prison ,the Chamber Kapitulari and side of the Cathedral will also be restored.

Later this year work will start on the rehabilitation of Cathedral Square which will be leveled and paved so that it can be better used for cultural and religious activities.

One of the biggest challenges facing the Ministry for Gozo in the execution of this project is the short period of implementation for this project, the Minister said.

However, the Ministry said that despite the difficulties it faces it is doing everything it can to ensure that this project will be completed in the shortest time possible.
