Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing, Justyne Caruana, has launched the National Standards for Housing for Persons with Disabilities which is now open for public consultation, this consultation will remain open until the 5th of June 2014.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that as was previously announced in the Consultative Seminar on National Policy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the government has launched and outlined a set of standards for public consultation on the provision of services, both for those receiving these services and for those offering these services.

Dr Caruana pointed out that Malta has never had set standards in the provision of service in the field of disability, this is therefore the first step forward and she now wants to expand and implement them throughout the existing services in the community.

Dr Caruana added that the Government has already started working on the National Strategy in the field to of the UN Convention, signed in November 2012, she stressed that this is no longer to stay just on paper but is to be fully implemented throughour Malta and Gozo.
