1 comment.500kgs of waste collected from Hondoq and Ramla clean-up last weekend

The Gozo University Group has said that it is pleased to have participated in the national clean-up initiative last weekend, by Let’s Do It Malta, coordinated by the Gozo NGO Association, together with the participation of Students’ voice, Nadur Youth Local Council and We Are All One, as well as other volunteers.
GUG said that there was a great turnout for both clean ups at Hondoq and Ramla. In all, the collective NGOs have recoded an amount of around 500 kgs of waste, including electronic waste such as TVs and bulbs “which unfortunately represent the kind of hazardous waste people tend to throw away in nature.”
“This event should be utilised as an awareness-tool. All kinds of wastes were dug out of the natural environment: electronics, hazardous waste, recyclables, etc. the pity is that citizens should know that they can have certain wastes collected freely to be disposed simply by calling their local councils to pick it up – for free.,” they said.
GUG added, “recycling should by now have become part and parcel of our daily management of waste. Valleys and bays are not the proper repose places for such waste.”
“Whilst we support clean up initiatives, and will continue to support them, they should have serve more as educative activities rather than fostering apathy in people, giving the wrong impression that NGOs are there to clean-up after unregulated dumping.
“We also thank the Qala and Nadur Local Councils for their continuous support and trust they will continue to strive for the cleanliness of their respective villages,” the Gozo University Group concluded.

fantastic well done to everyone who took part its a shame the good people of Gozo have to clear up the mess from the few who dump on Gozo as a rubbish tip! I have seen a lot of activty with lots of groups getting together to clear up this mess which is great however i think now is a good time to put in controls and fine people for dumping rubbish for others to clear up.I am sure the people who dump rubbish would not want their own children clearing up rubbish left by other people! Have people in groups spotting these people and reporting them ,take action now to prevent dont let all this hardwork go to WASTE!
