“It was to be a statement of the European Commission which revealed that the Labour Government had failed to negotiate with the European Union so that Malta can continue to provide incentives to industry in Malta.”

This was stated by the Nationalist Party Leader Simon Busuttil, during a political rally held in Victoria, Gozo. “So far the Prime Minister has kept the decision of the European Commission concealed from the people of Malta and Gozo,” the PN Leader said.

He added that “in a statement the European Commission confirmed that Malta has to reduce its financial aid to industry.”

“The Nationalist Party considers it a huge setback for Maltese industry and investment in Malta. This bad news adds to what has already been said by the Governor of the Central Bank and the Chamber of Commerce.”

Busuttil stated, “although our country has three Ministers, one for European Affairs, Finance and another one for the economy, none of them were able to negotiate with the European Union so that Malta can continue to offer good incentives for investment.”

“Despite all the boasting about how it is able to negotiate with the European Union, the Labour Government has shown that it is not able to negotiate anything,” The PN Leader concluded.
