Baby girl released from hospital and returned home to her mother

The Gozo Court’s presiding Magistrate in a decree today ordered a four-month old baby girl, who was allegedly seriously injured by her father, to be released from hospital and returned home to her mother.

The Magistrate also ordered monitoring of the baby’s care to be carried out by Social Workers.

The father, a 26-year old man from Nadur, was accused in July of grievously injuring his daughter. However, he denied the allegations and said that the child had been having a fit, and after calling his mother, they then rushed the child to the hospital. The man is now living with this parents.

The Police said that they had been alerted by medical officers at Mater Dei after the baby girl was admitted to the hospital with bruising and internal injuries, and the 26-year old man was then arraigned by Police.

The hospital reported that the baby girl had suffered a fractured skull and a brain hemorrhage, she also had bruising on areas of her head and body.

Inspector Joseph Busuttil and Inspector Frank Tabone prosecuted and Lawyer Lucio Sciriha represents the accused.
