Alternattiva Demokratika, in as statement this afternoon said, that it strongly condemns the violence against a Times journalist and photographer today during a protest by hunters.

Referring to a march attended by around 200 hunters in Valletta today, protesting against the Government’s hunting ban announced yesterday until the 10th of October. There were no FKNK or St Hubert’s hunting association officials seen during the march.

The marchers stopped in front of the Labour Party Office, where they shouted abuse, as well as throwing beer bottles and cans, chanting “No more votes.”

They then shouted insults and used foul language towards the Prime Minister when they reached the Palace Square.

Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said; “in a civilised and democratic society, whilst there is to be full space for peaceful demonstrations and protests, there is absolutely no room for any type of violence, which we totally condemn. AD shows its solidarity with the journalist and news photographer who were victims of this senseless violence.”

“Prime Minister Muscat should reflect on his methods of promising everything to everyone in order to get their votes. The violence today is also due to the empty promises of those politicians who resort to all sorts of double speak to gain votes.”
