Il Trovatore, staged on Saturday at the Aurora Theatre Gozo, was a resounding success, performed before a large and very appreciative audience

This opera by Verdi has enjoyed uninterrupted success from the day of its first performance in 1853. A remarkable expression of the romantic, hot blooded drama of chivalry.

It contains some of Verdi’s most passionate arias and inspiring choruses, exploring the deep intimacy of human relationships between fathers and daughters, mothers, sons and lovers. All of this was played out with strong voices, wonderful costumes and spectacular scenery.

The leading role of Leonora, the lady on whom two men cast their eyes when in fact she only loves one of them, was interpreted by soprano Michele Crider. The two men were Stuart Neill as Manrico and Marzio Giossi as Conte di Luna.

The Theatre gave thanks to all those involved in the production, all of whom helped make the evening the success it was.
