The new Civic Centre in the village of Kercem, Gozo, was officially inaugurated this morning by the President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, and was blessed by Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo.

The Civic Centre incorporates the Council administration offices, and the Police station, as well as the Health Clinic and library.

The project was carried out by the Kercem Local Council for the benefit of its residents and those of Santa Lucija. The location is accessible to everyone and is at the heart of the village close to the primary school, St Gregory Band Club, the football club and stadium.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local councils Stefan Buontempo described this Civic Centre as a “one stop shop.” This is because here there is a concentration of services available for the local citizen, serving all their needs.

“This Centre will provide a better quality of life for the residents of Kercem,” said the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo.

He said that to have all these useful and important services in one place saves a lot of time wasting for residents, by not having to run around to different locations and offices. It is the advantage of living in a small and tranquil area, the Minister said.

The Minister stated that this Centre “added value to the area.” Dr Refalo congratulated the Kercem Local Council on the project, and reiterated that the various services offered in the Centre will be provided with the best care, quality and dedication.

Following the inauguration ceremony, there was a performance by the children’s choir from Kercem Primary School and the St. Gregory Band. President Coleiro Preca, together with the Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary Stephan Buontempo, visited the Centre, accompanied by the Mayor of Kercem Mario Azzopardi and Local Counsellors.
