In March, the annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index stood at 0.59 per cent. A year earlier the annual rate was 1.11 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.

The main upward impacts were recorded in the Food Index (0.75 percentage points), the Clothing and Footwear Index (0.33 percentage points) and the Recreation and Culture Index (0.19 percentage points). This was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, garments and tuition fees respectively.

The largest downward impacts on annual inflation were brought about by the Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index (-0.66 percentage points) and the Transport and Communication Index (-0.26 percentage points). This was mainly due to lower electricity rates and a price reduction in fuels.

The twelve-month moving average rate was 0.24 per cent.
