La Stella Philharmonic Society has issued a statement in connection with the organisation of St George’s Feast, which is held annually in the centre of Victoria.

The Society, referring to the current embellishment works being carried out at Independence Square Victoria, Gozo, said that it is concerned about “the slow pace at which works are progressing, especially in the light of the fact that the St George’s Feast is supposed to be organised within five weeks. Street decorations have already started being put up around Victoria.”

The La Stella Philharmonic Society, has appealed to the Victoria Local Council to make the necessary arrangements to “complete the works in time, in order that the decorations in the main square, can be organised so that the feast can be held as scheduled.”

“In the light of the fact, that during the past days very little progress has been achieved,” the Society said that the square is “currently not accessible” and “this is putting at risk the external festivities for this year.”

“Since a number of commitments have already been taken by the Society it is seeking legal advice on the matter,” it said.

The Society said that St George’s feast is “an important activity in the cultural programme, not only for Gozo but also for the many Maltese who join us.”

The organisation of this feast is important not only from a social and historical point of view but also for the economy of Gozo, The La Stella Philharmonic Society concluded.
