A dead leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), over 1m long and possibly reaching 500kg in weight, has washed up in Cirkewwa early this morning, Nature Trust (Malta) reported today.
These turtles are very rare in the Mediterranean and Nature Trust (Malta) said that together with MEPA and veterinary surgeon Dr. Anthony Gruppetta, they are currently assessing the way forward.
