The Wirt Ghawdex restoration group has just finished the restoration of the statue of Sant’ Indrija, returning it to its original state.
Sculpted out of local limestone the statue is located at the fishermen’s boat berth in Xlendi Gozo. Wirt Ghawdex said that it is known that the initial inauguration and blessing of this statue took place on June 18, 1882, by the then Bishop of Gozo Fra Giovanni Maria Cammilleri.
Wirt Ghawdex gave thanks to the Ministry for Gozo and the Munxar Local Council for sponsoring the works that were carried out. The NGO also said a big ‘Well Done’ to the restoration team.
