Malta Police Band Concert commemorates Independence Day anniversary

The National and Regional Celebrations Committee within the Ministry for Gozo commemorated the 51st anniversary of Independence Day.

The programme for the evening consisted of a concert, held in Savina Square by the Malta Police Band under the direction of Senior Inspector Anthony Cassar. Also participating in the concert was the Gozitan soprano Rosabelle Pavia, together with Dorienne and Neville Refalo.

Present for commemoration event was the Minister for Gozo Dr Antor Refalo, together with his wife, Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana and her husband Mr. Valletta, Franco Mercieca MP and his wife. H.E. Mons. Joe Vella Gauci Ambassador to UNESCO Malta and Chairman of the National and Regional Celebrations Committee, and the Speaker Emeritus Mr Anton Tabone.

Malta gained its political Independence from Britain on the 21st of September 1964. On the night of the 20-21st September, the Maltese flag was raised at Independence Arena, Floriana, amidst the cheers of the large crowd present. Malta had become an independent nation.
