The Parliamentary Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights has announced that the San Frangisk Animal Centre at Ta’Qali has closed from today, on a temporary basis, because the contract for the present operator has come to an end.
Following a process of public tender, the new operator was selected – Pro-Animal Health ( APH Ltd).
The Secretariat said that under the contract, which had been drawn up under the previous government, the current operator is entitled to one month to vacate. The new operator will then be investing in works on upgrading the facilities before re-opening the Centre to the public.
“It is the intention of the Government to make the Centre more accessible to everyone, particularly for NGOs and voluntary organisations working in the field of animal protection.”
The Secretariat publishes a list of 19 other veterinary clinic scattered across Gozo and Malta, offering emergency service on call 24 hours a day or are part of a roster of emergency services offered by the MVA (Malta Veterinary Association).
The operation of the Directorate of Animal Welfare will continue as usual. For more information the public can call to the Directorate on freephone 1717, or by e-mail animalwelfare.msdec@gov.mt
