The Front Favur il-Mina has welcomed news of the developments of more accessibility between Malta and Gozo, and has appealed to the authorities to work together towards the same goal.
In a meeting held this morning with the Minister for Gozo Dr Anton Refalo, the Front put forward its proposals about the proposed subsea tunnel between the two islands.
Several issues were discussed, including the Three Stage System, for more accessibility. During the presentation of this system, Dr Refalo referred the Front to the second point, when he proposed introducing a fast ferry service in the near future.
The Front said that according to the Minister work was being carried out by the Ministry to issue a Public Service Obligation (PSO) to start operating a fast ferry to and from Gozo.
Dr Refalo said that this was being undertaken so that Gozitans would be able to cross over to the centre of Malta in as short a time as possible. He explained that with the existing PSO, Gozo Channel cannot offer this service.
Minister Refalo said that studies on a tunnel between Malta and Gozo were being carried out by the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure.
