The Ministry for Tourism has launched a process of public consultation on the proposed legal reform for the tourism sector, after having completed a comprehensive review of existing legislation over the past year.
The reform follows the National Tourism Policy for the Maltese Islands which was launched in March 2015.
The main objectives of the legal reform are to:
• Simplify all processes related to the licensing and operation of travel & tourism services;
• Better inform and protect consumers;
• Facilitate & incentivize quality of products and services offered;
• Encourage innovation and facilitate the development of products and services;
• Discourage irregular and illegal trading.
The documents have been drafted in consultation with representatives of all tourism service providers that are licensed by the Malta Tourism Authority. In the process various public agencies were also consulted.
The draft document may be viewed or downloaded here. Individuals and organisations are invited to send their comments and/or proposals by the 1st of April 2016.
