Nature Trust (Malta) has called on the Malta Environment and Planning Authority "to be responsible enough to not even consider the proposed development at Ta' Cenc in Gozo."

This is an ecological site of great importance, a Natura 2000 site, and an area of special landscape importance, the NGO said.

NTM stated that further development on this site will serve to make Malta and Gozo lose out on tourism, especially eco-tourists who visit such sites for ecological beauty.

"It is therefore important that we do not shoot ourselves in the foot and continue to sacrifice such sites under the excuse of the economy and tourism itself."

NTM added that in parallel the Gozo Ministry should also oppose this development in line with its eco-Gozo promotion as such a development proposal is only going to destroy another scenic beauty site for ever.

Nature Trust (Malta) said that in the past it had raised the case of Ta' Cenc with the EU commission and after presenting the case Ta' Cenc was eventually included as a whole in the Natura 2000 sites network.

NTM concluded by saying that it hopes the Prime Minister's promise of "no more development in ODZ, is kept for the sake of our natural environment and future generations to enjoy."
