Professor Tony Dyson, the creator of the robot known as `RD-D2′ that featured in the Star Wars films has been found dead in Gozo.

Professor Dyson’s body was found after Police were called to his home in Munxar by concerned neighbours after the notices that his front door had been left open.

An autopsy is to be held to determine Dyson’s cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.

An inquiry is also underway.

R2-D2 made its debut in the Star Wars franchise in 1977. Tony Dyson had said that “the love for R2 is universal; no other Star Wars character has been loved over the years the way R2-D2 has, his merchandising has rocketed over the years and his influence in the world of robotics is truly remarkable.”
