In the past three years, Gozitan Local Councils have benefited from around € 9 million in EU funds towards 46 different projects.
This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Stefan Buontempo, while addressing a briefing session for Gozitan Councils on new EU funds available in connection with the reduction of emissions and air pollution.
He said that thanks to the work of the Local Councils, Gozitans are now benefiting from projects such as the creation of heritage trails, the installation of LED street lighting, the renovations of village squares, as well as multicultural exchanges.
Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo added that "now, the Councils in Gozo will have the opportunity to improve air quality through projects co-financed by the European Union to build on the work of the Government in this area."
"Local Councils, as representatives of the communities, can make a valuable contribution, because they know the needs of their communities, as well as the challenges being faced relating to air pollution in their localities.
The Chief of Staff at the Ministry for Gozo Dr Christian Zammit, was also present for the information session..
