Amy Spiteri, a Year 5 student at Gozo College Kercem Primary School, has been awarded the 3rd prize in an art competition – My Favourite Maltese Butterfly – organised by St Vincent de Paul Long-term Care Facility.

Amy was presented with a €100 book voucher and the school is to be awarded €500 to organise an intergenerational activity.

Dr Justyne Caruana, Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing presented the awards during a ceremony held last month marking the European Day for Intergenerational Solidarity and on the occasion of St Vincent de Paul’s Long-term Care Facility’s 125th anniversary.
Students were divided into groups before the ceremony and had the opportunity to take part in several activities organised for them.

There was a visit to Cat Cafe, where students were able to pick up and stroke the kittens and a short talk was given by Animal Guardians Malta. Another group planted indigenous trees and then Dr Brian Farrugia delivered a short talk. Other students visited some wards within the facility.

Kercem Primary said that it was a positive learning experience for all.
