Zminijietna – The Voice of the Left, is appealing to representatives of trade unions to put pressure on the Government to amend the law on minimum wage income, so that the principle of “equal pay for equal work” is respected.
The left think tank organisation said in a statement that, “the current situation is chaotic. Wage discrimination between workers is legally accepted now with the new legislation, as only those workers on a second year of employment onwards, and employed with the same company are entitled for an increase in the minimum wage.”
It pointed out that, “the various workers on a temporary job contract, temporary agency workers and part-time workers, will surely face discrimination in wages, precariousness, and poverty.”
“It should be statutory to have increase in the minimum wage, so every worker on a minimum wage income is entitled to an increase, irrespective of the years in employment, or the type of employment contract,” stated Zminijietna – Voice of the Left
