Year 5 students attending Gozo College Victoria Primary School, also known as the `Happy School,’ are organising an exhibition of their work entitled – Legends With Legs.

This exhibition is a result of a Kreattiv Project undertaken by the children in a completely different context to usual – in an immersive workshop experience.

The aim was for them to express themselves through an art environment without books, tables and chairs, uniform or bell ringing.

Children had the opportunity to discover Gozitan legends and they then retell them to others through art, music, drama and movement. The workshops were held in the Visual and Performing Arts School – Xewkija.

Educators who led this project chose three Gozitan legends and rewrote them into modern English, and also made them suitable for younger audiences.

These formed the basis of three workshops, which were also documented by videos. Eventually a short film was produced for each story completed by the individual student groups.

The films will be presented at the inauguration of the exhibition, together with nine pieces of art that the children created during the project.

The exhibition will be inaugurated next Friday, the 1st of December at the Cittadella Cultural Centre in Victoria, at 7.00pm. It will be open to the public from Saturday, the 2nd of December, until the 7th of January – Monday to Sunday 9am-3pm.

The School said that this project has offered a unique experience for their students.

Legends with Legs was approved by the Kreattiv funding programme – within the Arts Council Malta.
