According to data from the National Statistics Office today, there were an estimated 317,490 tourist arrivals in the Maltese Islands during August, an increase of 10.2% on last year.

It was noted that 290,734 trips were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further 8,980 were undertaken for business purposes.

Tourists arriving from EU Member States went up by 8.6% to 266,492 when compared to August last year.

The number of nights spent surpassed 2.7 million, this was up by 5.7% on last year, with the largest share of guest nights (46.9%) spent in collective accommodation establishments.

The visitors to the Maltese Islands spent an estimated €320.6 million, an increase of 7.2% on 2017.
