Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi and Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana have launched a scheme intended to assist tourist establishments in Gozo to upgrade their premises – Enable Tourism.

This is a new scheme for Gozitan tourist establishments through which financial assistance will be available to improve accessibility.

Minister Justyne Caruana explained how this scheme, which was announced in the last budget, will apply to two categories of establishments, those with less than 40 beds and those with more than 40.

Through this scheme, and according the criteria indicated, the Ministry for Gozo will be financing 50% of the cost to those eligible.

Dr Caruana added said that, “this means that the Government understands the challenges facing the tourism sector and the need to invest to improve the tourist product so as to strengthen and ensure accessibility under the accessible policy ‘Tourism for All,’ which was launched by the UNWTO.

“The tourism sector this year reached record levels and is expected to continue to grow and we need to now improve and enhance ready to meet the challenges of the future,” said Minister Caruana.

Minister Konrad Mizzi stressed the Government’s commitment to further strengthen Gozo tourism and promote Gozo as a distinct tourist destination, including during visits he will be making over the coming days to several important overseas tourism fairs

Joe Muscat, CEO of the Gozo Tourism Association, welcomed this new measure, saying that it will help significantly in meeting the goals and the necessary improvements to accessibility for local accommodation establishments.
