According to the latest data from the National Statistics Office, the total number of inbound visitors for August was estimated at 338,758.

This was an increase of 6.7% when compared to the corresponding month last year, the NSO said.

313,506 of these trips were carried out for holidays while a further 9,656 were for business purposes.

Inbound tourists travelling from Non-EU countries went up by 8.3% when compared to the corresponding month in 2018.

The total nights spent went up by 5.85 when compared to the same month last year, reaching nearly 2.9 million nights. The NSO noted that the largest share of guest nights (45.7%) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.

The total tourist expenditure for August was estimated at €329.6 million, the NSO said that this was an increase of 2.8% over last year.

Inbound tourist trips for the first eight months of this amounted to 1,848,935 an increase of 4.7% over the same period in 2018.

Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 3.0%, reaching nearly 13.2 million nights. While total tourism expenditure was estimated at almost €1.5 billion, 3.9% higher than that recorded for last year.

Total expenditure per capita stood at €810, a decrease of 0.9% when compared to 2018, the NSO said.
