Brexit: Be Prepared – is the official campaign launched by the Government on Tuesday to inform Maltese and British citizens, businesses and stakeholders of its preparedness and contingency measures in the case of a no-deal Brexit scenario.
The Ministry for European Affairs and Equality has launched a dedicated facebook page and official helpline – 153, with the aim of reaching as many people as possible, so that everyone is prepared.
The Government said that for British citizens in Malta, the Government will, through a legal notice permit UK citizens who arrive in Malta before the 31st of October to apply for a “special status.”
This special status will ensure the protection of their rights in the job market, as well as for education, health services, and social services.
It was explained that this would run for 10 years before it needed to be renewed and a work-permit to work in Malta would not be required by these persons.
Minister Edward Zammit Lewis reiterated the Maltese Government’s commitment “to be the best partner of the UK within the European Union, once Brexit enters into force
