Rotary Club of Gozo have said that they are proud to start their initiative to reduce plastic by sponsoring local village stores in Gozo with paper bags.
As part of this initiative Rotary Club of Gozo are offering local village shops 500 paper bags to replace plastic bags.
They said that it is hoped that local businesses will adopt paper rather than plastic reducing the threat of plastic waste. “Awareness is the aim of the initiative.”
The project was instigated by Doug Wholey, a Xaghra Rotarian and initiated by Nic Carey, President of Rotary Club Gozo.
The paper bags were presented to 3 local shops in Qala in the presence of Mayor Paul Buttigieg. Bags were presented to the UR shop, Sympatico and Paul Michaels in Qala.
The initiative will continue by offering complimentary bags to local village stores across Gozo.
