This year Life Cycle Organisation will be launching the 11th Lifecycle Challenge on the 12th of March – World Kidney Day. The launch, this year sponsored by the Marina Hotel at the Corinthia Beach Resort, is an important event as it starts the ball rolling for the 2009 event.

The Life Cycle Organisation was founded in 1999 to create awareness and generate support for patients suffering from end stage renal disease. To achieve this, Life Cycle Challenge is organized once a year in different countries over the world. It is one of the most grueling endurance events in Europe, putting a dedicated team of Maltese cyclists against the elements in a long distance ride through different countries. This event covers an average of 2,000km in a mere 10 days and is held annually in the summer months.

By putting such an extreme event together, the Life Cycle Organization intends to attract the Maltese public’s attention to the plight of patients of the Renal Unit, and to encourage generous donations from the public. The Organization has three main aims: to raise awareness about Renal Disease; to raise funds for the high tech equipment necessary to upgrade the Renal Unit at St. Luke’s hospital; to increase the quality of life of Renal Patients by allowing them access to cutting edge levels of care.
