President George Vella, has this morning announced the visit of Pope Francis to Malta and Gozo in May.
Speaking at the end of Mass on the occasion of the feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck, in St Paul’s Parish Church, the President said that Pope Francis has welcomed the invitation of the President, Authorities and the Church.
In Gozo, the news was delivered at the end of Mass in the Parish Church of St Paul’s Shipwreck, Munxar, by Mgr. Mario Grech, Apostolic Administrator for Gozo.
Mgr Grech announced that that the meeting of Pope Francis with the church in Gozo will be held in front of the Ta’ Pinu National Shrine, “putting this historic event under the protection of Our Lady.”
“His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Malta and Gozo on the 31st of May.” The motto of the visit has been chosen as – “They showed us unusual kindness,” Acts 28,2.
The programme of the journey will be published at a later stage.
