Air Malta and Ryanair both announce suspension of all flights to ItalyAs from Tuesday, Air Malta said that it has suspended all its flights to and from Italy following the ban issued by the Government after the lockdown enforced by the Italian Government.

The airline said that this measure was taken to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak. The flights have been suspended until further notice.

Air Malta added that it is planning to operate a limited number of flights to carry urgent medical supplies for hospitals, cargo, and to repatriate residents back to the Islands.

The repatriation will be coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs Office.

The airline said that it is constantly in touch with various authorities and is closely monitoring the evolving situation. It will announce any changes as the need arises.

Air Malta concluded by saying that it will be keeping its customers updated through its website www.airmalta.com and social media channels including www.facebook.com/AirMalta/.

Ryanair, also announced on Tuesday the suspension of its full flight schedule to/from and within Italy.

This follows the decision of the Italian Government to “lock down” the entire country to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

These additional cuts will be implemented as follows:

From 24:00hrs Weds 11 Mar until 24:00hrs Wed 8 Apr, Ryanair will suspend all Italian domestic flights.

From 24:00hrs Fri 13 Mar until 24:00hrs Wed 8 Apr, Ryanair will suspend all Italian international flights.

The airline said that all affected passengers have received email notices today informing them of these flight cancellations.

It added that passengers looking for repatriation can obtain a free move to an earlier Ryanair flight operating up until midnight Friday, the 13th of March.

Affected passengers will be able to choose between a full refund or a travel credit that can be redeemed on Ryanair flights in the next 12 months, the airline said.

Ryanair explained that it continues to comply fully with WHO and national Government guidance and travel bans.

“The situation is changing on a daily basis, and all passengers on flights affected by travel bans or cancellations, are receiving emails and are being offered flight transfers, full refunds or travel credits.”

Ryanair apologised “sincerely to all customers for these schedule disruptions, which are caused by national Government restrictions and the latest decision of the Italian Government to lock down the entire country to combat the Covid-19 virus.”
