In a press conference on Tuesday, with Health Minister Chris Fearne and Supt. of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, Dr Fearne said that their were 52 new cases of Covid-19, had been reported in the past 24-hours, 48 are in Malta and 4 in Gozo. The total number of cases now stands at 293.
Dr Fearne, that these numbers are in keeping with what they had been predicting and had in fact been expected a week ago.
This is the highest daily increase recorded since the discovery of the first case in Malta which was one month ago. 5 patients have recovered in total.
The Health Minister explained that 825 swab tests had been carried out during the past 24-hours, with a goal of 1000 tests a day.
He reiterated his appeal to the public to remain disciplined, adding that, “how we control the outbreak in Malta depends on each and every one of us.”
Dr Fearne, also encouraged people who could to work from home to do so, and for the public to only to go out for the essentials.
He went on to say that a database would be released for anyone wanting to provide a service of volunteering can register.
The Minister stressed the need of caring for others, including calling relatives etc, saying that a new helpline had been launched – 1770 for people who need mental health help.
Superintendent of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci explained that all the news cases were by local transmission and out of these 52 cases there are four from Gozo and 5 from abroad. 1 of today’s cases includes a person who resides in a nursing home.
Prof Gauci added that 3 of the recent patients from Gozo are being treated at the Gozo General Hospital.
She went on to say that the majority of cases are through family transmission, while others are workplace related.
5 patients have recovered in total.

Not nice to say, leave the infected Maltese stay put and not travel to Gozo at this moment in time its 4, but if visitors from Outside Gozo travel to Gozo , then that nr. 4 is going to increase for sure.
Yes i agree the only way to stop the spreading is to stop the Gozo ferries operating till the problem is at ease,and not doing a Trump’s way of doing things and that is to fill his fat orange pockets.
But nobody is stopping people crossing from Malta – and the worst thing they can do is visit their relations.
Thats worst still as their relation will catch it
Obviously we need the ferries for supplies.
And some human movement is considered essential.
But visiting relations or coming because you have a place is NOT essential.
Nor,, for that matter, is coming for hunting.
