38 new Covid-19 cases registered including 1 from Gozo

Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in Thursday’s Covid-19 update she said that 38 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, all were locally transmitted. The number of cases now stands at 337.
She said that 25 of the cases are female, including 2 pregnant women and 13 males, there are also 2 children. Prof Gauci said that, 4 of the new cases are non-Maltese. They are aged between 4 and 69.
1 of the males is an elderly Gozitan, who had displayed symptoms of the virus and tested positive, the man also has various chronic underlying health conditions, Prof Gauci said.
Prof Gauci said that 1018 swab tests had been carried out during the past 24-hours, achieving the goal of 1000 tests a day, as announced by Health Minister Chris Fearne on Tuesday. 16 people have now recovered from the virus.
Another of the 38 cases was a 51-year old female carer showing no symptoms, but who tested positive during a screening for workers, the woman has stopped work
She advised that to avoid possible contamination, when shopping from grocers and supermarkets any purchases should be wiped with soap.
Prof Gauci went on to say that it now appears “that we have started the beginning of the curve.”
