A virtual egg hunt and quiz – Spacetastic – that anyone can play for free, has been launched by Local Steam project Gozo Spacelab on their website at www.gozospacelab.com
10 Galactic Eggs have been hidden all over the site for children to discover. Each egg is concealed behind a screen. Players hover over each egg to reveal its true colours and guess what planet or celestial object lies beneath.
Spacelab explained that also hidden are Space Facts with information on each ‘Egg’ and which forms the basis for the Quizzz that follows the hunt. A Bonus Egg serves as a tiebreaker (a bit like the black sheep in How to Train your Dragon!). “Can you find them all?”
The Galactic Checklist helps to track progress and tally-up points. After the hunt, players can make up their own Quiz or use the Quizzzz Sheet containing 18 questions based on the information found in the Fact Boxes. So oodles of fun and some learning along the way. A second Quiz Sheet is being launched today – Good Friday.
Spacestastic can be played at home with family or with friends over video-sharing platforms like Zoom, Messenger, Whatsapp and Skype.
“The universe is your oyster,” just click here for instructions, the Galactic Checklist and Quizzz Sheets.
Naomi McDonald, founder of Spacelab said:, “most of what we do at Spacelab is inspired by our two sons, now aged 8 and 6. They are space-mad, nature-mad, life-mad … and friends-mad too!
“Spacetastic is no different. Traditions we brought with us from home in England include the unmissable Easter Egg Hunt with friends and Zoom (et al) have been our life-link during these times of social isolation.
“We started off by hiding some egg-shaped planets all over our website and over a sleepless (but very productive) night this week it became Spacetastic!
“Be with your friends while staying at home, until the sun will rise and we can be together again. Happy Easter everyone,” said Naomi.
How to play Spacetastic
1. Load up gozospacelab.com and find the Galactic Checklist.
2. Call up family and friends on Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp, Messenger.
3. Start the hunt by exploring our website. The first to spot a Galactic Egg on a page shouts “SPACETASTIC” and everyone stops searching.
4. Try to guess the name of the Planet or Celestial Object. Hint: Hover over the Egg to reveal its true colours.
5. The finder then clicks and reads the Space Fact out loud (perhaps Mummy or Daddy can help if you’re little). You will need this information for the Quizzz so listen carefully!
6. Use the Galactic Checklist to keep the score.
7. Resume the Hunt. As you search take time to read about comets, asteroids, moonwatching and our Build-a-Spaceship Contest, currently in full swing.
8. Have you found all 10 Eggs + the tiebreaker BONUS Egg? Fantastic.
9. Now it’s Quizzz Time. Use the Quizzz Sheet or make your own.
10. Play this as many times as you like with as many friends as you like, wherever they are. Be Safe. Be Happy.
