Private sector employees who travel to work in Malta are now being given a €650 subsidy. similar to those in the public sector.
The Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, making the announcement, said that the additional financial aid which is already granted to public service employees for collective transport will be now be extended to private sector employees.
He explained that as of the 1st of January this year, all employees working in the public and private sectors are now receiving an annual subsidy of €650, which are paid in two instalments.
Minister Camilleri said that, “this year we have increased the subsidy for private sector employees from €300, thereby ending the difference in financial assistance between public and private sectors.” The only exception now is teachers and LSEs who receive €525 due to the summer holidays, he said.
Around 500 private sector employees will benefit from this measure, along with 1,189 public sector employees who are already receiving this allowance.
He concluded by saying that this measure will be helping all Gozitans who cross the channel every day to work in Malta.
Subsidy parameters and conditions:
1. The applicant must be resident in Gozo and work on a full-time basis in Malta.
2. The HR Department of the organisation or entity where the applicant works shall certify that;
i. the applicant has worked with the organisation for the stipulated period for which he / she has applied (Jan – June; July – December);
ii. no other inter-island transport subsidy is granted by the organisation.
3. Applications for the period January – June shall be submitted from 1 July to 15 August and payment shall be made by the end of August.
Applications for the period July – December must be submitted between 1 January and 15 February and payment will be made by the end of February.
4. Applicants working with government ministries / entities / agencies and the private sector will be entitled to € 650 per annum except for teachers and LSEs who are entitled to € 525 due to public holidays. -summer.
