7 new Covid-19 cases have been reported, with 4 recoveries, Heath Authorities said on Sunday.

There are 546 cases, 93 are currently active, 454 recovered and there has been 6 deaths. There were 1,429 tests taken in the past 24-hours, with the total made so far at 50,660.

The 7 new patients are aged between 26 and 55-years old. Of these, Prof Gauci said that 6 were asymptomatic and contact tracing is being carried out.

There are 4 patients in Boffa Hospital, 6 in St Thomas, and 3 at Karin Grech.

She again urged the public to wear masks when shopping or on public transport and to maintain social distancing measures.

Earlier this morning, speaking on One Radio, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the country should not be worried about the increase in numbers of confirmed cases, this he said, was because the number of tests carried out had also increased.

He went on say that details would be provided tomorrow regarding the lifting of further restrictions, which could see restaurants and hairdressers re-opening by the end of the week, it is not yet known whether vulnerable people will be able to go to restaurants etc.

The Prime Minister said that education will be key.  “Since it is safe for these establishments to re-open, the message is that people can make use of them without issue, if they observe the measures announced by the health authorities.”

He stressed that it would not be like before the start of the pandemic, with restaurants having less tables than before, however those restaurants who in the past because of regulations, had not been allowed to have tables and chairs outside, may now be able to do so.

The Prime Minister also encouraged the public to visit the beaches and enjoy the sea, but to adhere to the social distancing measures.

With regards to outbound tourism from Malta, no premature decisions will be taken, he said. “The fact that discussions have started does not mean that action will be taken soon.”

“Everything will continue to progress cautiously and prudently, and in accordance with medical advice.”
