The Marsa Squash Section will be holding a junior squash festival on Saturday, the 11th of April from 10.am until 4pm. The junior squash festival is a fun filled day for juniors aged 7-11.

The children will learn various aspects of racket sport co-ordination skills / warming-up & stretching / squash basics / squash rules and take part in a ‘mini-squash’ tournament (involving the skills learnt during the day).

The entry fee is: Marsa Members €15,00 / non-members €20,00. A picnic lunch will be provided and all participants will receive a certificate.

‘Mini-squash’ is the correct way for children to learn and develop all the necessary coordination skills required to play racket sports at a later stage.

The methods used revolve around the ‘A – B – Cs’ of sport (Agility – Balance – Coordination). After the ‘A-B-C’ sessions the children then move on to squash specific exercises.

‘Mini-squash’ has been developed by a large number of professional squash coaches and experts in various fields over the past years and has successfully been introduced to most of the leading squash countries world-wide.

Coordination is sometimes taken for granted in small children, and frustration at not being able to ‘hit the ball’ or ‘play the game’ often leads to juniors leaving the game at an early age.

Mini-squash develops all aspects of coordination’s skills, teaches children to learn & respect rules, provides them with competitive experience, and gives the children the chance to achieve various standard related levels.

Mini squash is the correct stepping stone to future success and is taught using a wide range of fun related games, letting the children develop their skills at the correct pace, and keeping them interested in squash for many years to come

‘Mini-Squash’ is the most successful junior squash development program used throughout Europe over the past 10 years.

Colette Sultana, Malta’s leading junior, started her squash career at a Junior Squash Festival using this same format.

The supervision and training will be under the guidance of Paul Lake, Squash Academy head coach, members of the Marsa Squash Section, and Colette Sultana, Malta Junior Squash Champion.

Contact Paul on 79003053 for further details.

Closing date for applications in Thursday, the 9th of April at midday.
