55 new Covid-19 cases – a new record – have been recorded in the past 24-hours, with 13 new recoveries, Health authorities have said. There were 2,485 swab tests taken, an additional centre had opened in Malta yesterday.
Authorities said that today’s new cases include 5 family members of previously known cases, 4 contacts of previously reported cases, 2 from the Paceville cluster and 1 from the language school cluster
Authorities said that “contact tracing is ongoing,” with no details provided on the remaining 43 unaccounted for cases.
As of today’s date, not including today’s new cases, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has said that for Malta, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 74.8. It is showing the total number of cases as 1,089.
France is shown as 32.1, The Netherlands is 40.2.
It noted that the cases reported for Malta do not include the positive migrant cases, who disembarked in Malta and were quarantined upon arrival.
There are now 528 active cases, with 1,245 cases in total. 708 have recovered and there have been 9 deaths.
149,952 swab tests have been taken since the start.
The authorities are recommending that the public avoid all crowded areas.
Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.
All 3 swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made.
