Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo visited the carpenters’ unit which forms part of the Maintenance Section for schools in Gozo within the Ministry for Gozo, while they were occupied with their duties. During the past two years, investment in new machinery enabled more efficiency at the unit and better safety at work for the personnel. Moreover, this machinery made it possible for this unit to provide the necessary furniture to schools within the Gozo College within a relatively short time.

During this scholastic year, the carpenters finished works for the Xewkija Primary School and the Sir M.A. Refalo Post Secondary School. Currently, this unit is working on new furniture for the Qala Primary School.

The Minister for Gozo also visited works being carried out at the Nadur Primary School. These works required an investment of €22,500, involving extensive repair works to the roof of a corridor leading to the second floor as well as ancillary works. This work started during the Easter holidays in order to ensure safety for children as well as to facilitate works.

The first phase of these works included the demolition of the roof slabs and beams, management of material as well as preparatory works for the concrete works involved in the installation of the new roof. Remaining works comprise laying of tiles, plastering and painting of relative areas.

Minister Giovanna Debono remarked that these works confirm the Ministry for Gozo’s commitment in its endeavours to continously develop services within the education sector in Gozo. The Ministry’s aim is to improve structures and environments within schools so that all students attending at any educational centre on the island will benefit from modern education facilities, which offer welcoming, safe and accessible environments to all.
