The Education Ministry is to facilitate the process for registering kindergarten admissions. Education Minister Justyne Caruana explained that in order to help parents they will be able to register their children online and more details about this process will be announced in the coming days.
Speaking during a visit to the Laura Vicuna Primary School, in Ghasri, Gozo, Minister for Education Justyne Caruana said that, “as a Ministry we always seek to help and make the lives of our students’ parents easier, so we thought that even those parents who want to register their children for kindergarten will be helped, both because of this time of Covid restrictions but also because we are in the holidays.”
Minister Caruana went on to say that children who turn 3 years old by April 2021 must be registered to start kindergarten on the 1st of February, by Monday, the 4th of January 2021.
The Minister for Education said that as the Ministry did its best to start and continue the school year we are in, and continue it successfully, work is also being done for the opening of the kindergarten.
Laura Vicuna Primary School is run by Salesian nuns since it opened in 1970. It reminds its students of Christian teaching while fostering the holistic development of its students.
Head of School Cheryl Grech welcomed the Minister and while showing her the facilities on a tour of the school, Dr Caruana also had the opportunity to meet with the educators and LSEs who discussed with her their work in the school.
Minister Justyne Caruana then moved on to visit San Lawrenz Primary School where she was welcomed by the Head of School Saviour Tabone. He explained that the school welcomes students from all over Europe and other countries.
It was noted that “the picturesque environment and friendly atmosphere that exist in the school, as well as the competent staff, make the educational experience of the students extremely positive.”
Minister Caruana, during her tour of the school, was able to see at first-hand the dedication of the administration, educators and LSEs.
“This is the environment we want to see in our schools,” said Minister Caruana. “That the educational path is not just a journey during which education is given, but also one that is given in an atmosphere of unity and in an environment that is suitable for all.”
