Nadur Local Council has advised that it will not organise any mass events which involves groups of people together during the dates when Carnival would have been held.

“The rumours there might be about any kind of Carnival in Nadur, are all unfounded,” the Council said.

In a statement, the Local Council also said that it will not give related permits to any entity or group in order to organise any type of mass activity during carnival.

Although Nadur is synonymous with the carnival, the Local Council stressed that “it is not an appropriate time for the gathering of people and for the organisation of events that involve masses of people.”

The Council went on to say that although Carnival in Nadur is also spontaneous, it warned that “nobody should use this as an excuse to meet or gather in groups of people within the locality.”

“The Local Council is committed that if necessary, it will call on the police to ensure that order is kept and that no law or health authority directive is broken,” it said.

The Nadur Local Council added that it is “unified on this matter and believes that the first priority is health.”

The Council pointed out that it had already had to cancel many other mass events during this last year, such as the Mnarja activities including the Agricultural Fair, the Wine Festival, Halloween, the Nadur 8K and Christmas events.

The Local Council appealed to everyone “to take care of each other, of our own health and to show respect. This is a time in which we should be extra vigilant, to be able to hope that we will duly celebrate next year’s Carnival.”
