The Energy Ministry is joining forces with local councils in Gozo and Malta for the distribution of water kits.

At the initiative of the Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli and the Energy and Water Agency (EWA), discussions are underway with local councils to facilitate access to the water conservation kits.

She explained that, “together with the Energy and Water Agency, we are looking at how to control water waste. This ties in with our policy of efficient water use. The Agency has already visited a number of localities and will continue with this work in the coming days and months.”

The Minister added that, “we are working to facilitate access for people, especially those who would not be able to collect the water kit from the agency’s distribution unit when it is in their locality. For this reason, we are currently in discussion with the Association of Local Councils.”

Through these discussions, the role of local councils in this campaign will be increased.

She said that the aim is for the councils to provide distribution assistance, allowing residents to collect their kit, even when the mobile unit moves on to another locality.

This initiative will start in collaboration with the Zurrieq Local Council and will continue with a number of other local councils who will be hosting the ‘WATER – Start With You’ campaign.

The campaign, which is run by the Energy and Water Agency, is spread over three years and aims to educate on water conservation.

In addition to delivering educational messages, the agency is distributing tools that can be attached to water appliances in the home to reduce water consumption.
