Assistance and funds are being offered to NGOs for environmental projects, through two schemes which are aimed at encouraging Maltese participation in the LIFE programme
Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Planning Aaron Farrugia said that, “the work of eNGOs and voluntary organisations is indispensable. That is why the government is offering this financial aid to these organisations to have opportunities and support for projects that are a priority for Malta.”
He explained that the first scheme is a call for a co-financing grant by the Ministry for LIFE projects, offering financial support to NGOs whose operations involve environmental conservation and its promotion.
The second scheme being launched is also the aid scheme for writing a LIFE proposal. It is designed to offer financial assistance to enable professional services to be engaged in writing LIFE-funded project proposals.
The Government went on to say that applications for these funds will be considered on the basis of their contribution to environmental priorities: measurement and management of Natura 2000 sites; climate change mitigation and adaptation; green infrastructure; energy efficiency; waste management and marine litter; and afforestation.
The aim of these initiatives is to have more successful project applications that succeed in the application of the LIFE Programme. The end result is effective projects that meet environmental goals and reduce the impact of climate change.
The Government said that it is urging eNGOs and voluntary organisations who care about the environment of Malta to take the opportunity provided by these schemes, in order to develop projects which can qualify for LIFE Programme funds.
