There were 2 new Covid-19 case recorded in the past 24-hours from 2,545 swab tests – making a 0.07% positivity rate. There were 4 recoveries and no new deaths registered.

Superintendent of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in her weekly update, has advised that the first case of the “Indian variant – Delta,” has been found in Malta, the case is being investigated.

She advised that there 2 active cases of Covid-19 in Gozo, with none in hospital.

Prof Gauci also said that there are currently 2 people in Hospital – in Mater Dei, 1 in IDU and 1 in MDH other ward.

Prof Gauci said the seven-day moving average of cases was now 5, up 1 from last week. The positivity rate is 0.2, the same as last week.

She advised that the average age of new cases is 31.9. Those aged 20-24 made up the largest number of new cases in the last week.

Sporadic made up the largest number of cases over the last week, with 13, followed by households with 10, imported 7 and social settings 4.

It was explained that in Malta there is currently 47% of the Alpha variant, 0.7% of Beta variant, 3.7% of the Gamma variant.

Vaccination rates second dose – those aged 85+ 100%, 80+ 93%, 70+ 89%, 60+ 77%; 50-59 45%; 40-49 59%; 30-39 42% and 16-29 24%.

She said that 50% of the population are now full vaccinated.

Active cases remain at 74 in Malta and Gozo. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 30,559 and there have been 30,066 recoveries and 419 deaths.

936,409 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

541,178 doses of the vaccine have been administered up until yesterday. 226,341 are now fully vaccinated, while 88,496 are partly vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 3rd of June, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,535 and the number of deaths showing is 419. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 9.91, the lowest in the EU.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures so that we can protect the most vulnerable in our society – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
