The €100 voucher scheme for elderly long-stay tourists to spend in any outlets that accept the government vouchers, has been welcomed by the Gozo Tourism Association.

In a statement, the Association said that this scheme, which was announced earlier today, apart from being in itself another measure to entice foreign tourists to visit the Maltese Islands, it is also aimed towards a senior citizens segment, which presently is very cautious in their holiday bookings, due to the ongoing covid-19 spread.

This scheme is eligible for tourists who opt for long stays – 15 nights or more and the GTA said that, “this will definitely help in increasing the tourist average length of stay, which worldwide is in decline.”

The Gozo Tourism Association also noted that this scheme fits perfectly the profile of the foreign guest who is frequenting Gozo.

It pointed out that, “Gozo is a preferred destination with those foreign tourists over the age of 65 and who visit the Island during the winter months for a long and tranquil holiday. This is a segment of tourist who along the years helped in mitigating seasonality on Gozo.”

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by saying that it believes that this scheme will “definitely entice foreign tourists and create interest in Gozo, as did the other six schemes announced these past weeks by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority.”
