Two Gozitan cyclists formed part of the Maltese representative cycling team in the 9th edition of the Giro d’Italia Amatori, held between the 2nd and 4th of July.

The competition was made up of three races in Perugia during which the Gozitan team members achieved very good results.

The team, led by the Secretary-General of the Malta Cycling Federation, Gozitan Joe Bajada, competed for the first time in a cycledrome, situated in Pian di Massiano (La Casa del Ciclista), near the football stadium Renato Curi of Perugia.The races were over 40 laps with a distance of 500 metres and in every fifth lap a sprint was held with 20 points gained and the final was with a double score.

For the young cyclist Stefan Scerri, this was his debut wearing the Malta shirt achieving good performances, having taken part in the Juniors category, while in the Sunday race he finished in third place and fourth overall in the same category.

Brandon Sultana was representing Malta for the second time. He finished in third place in the Juniors final standings, after twice taking third place in the Friday and Saturday races.

Sultana made his debut with the Maltese National team in March 2019 in the Grand Fondo which was held in the Paphos area in Cyprus, when as a team they finished third in the Men’s final classification out of 12 teams.
