218 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 4,188 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 5.20%. This makes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo exactly 1,000.
Authorities also said that there were no recoveries and no new deaths registered.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 31,612 and there have been 30,192 recoveries and 420 deaths.
1,025,989 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered has now at 711,973 up until yesterday. 352,523 people are now fully vaccinated.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 8th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,664 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 14.38. .
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
1000 is a very big numbervand I am sure it will go up but it is not the end of the world if we stay catious. These 1000 will be recovered by the end of the month. The worst thing are the deaths. Do not hesitate to go to the hospital if you feel you need to.
We cannot expect recoveries right now because we had around a week with 0 positive so we have to wait for at least 10 days for recoveries of those positive 5 days ago. Today’s fortnight we expect over 200 recoveries. So If I am right and I can’t say I am right, but if I am right what we have to do is not get infected. Let us be careful and prudent.
