Heritage Malta is organising a course, in English on the caring of paintings. The course which is aimed at persons with an interest in paintings and their care will help participants to appreciate better the techniques, deterioration, handling and presentation of paintings. It will also give guidance on the best practices which are to be used in the conservation, restoration of paintings. This will give better knowledge on what can be done by oneself and when the professional needs to be called in.

Those taking part in the course will learn to look after such heritage. There is a growing interest in the conservation and restoration of paintings but not all the work that is being carried out is guaranteeing their conservation.

The course will be held on Thursdays at The Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage, Heritage Malta, Bighi in Kalkara. The first session starts on Thursday, the 4th of June. Other sessions will be held on the 11th of June, 18th of June, 25th of June and the 2nd of July 2009. The final session will be held on site at the paintings conservation studios.

The course will be 10 hours long. All sessions will be held between 6pm and 8pm. Few places are available. The course fee 60 Euros (50 Euros for HM members).
