43 new Covid-19 cases and 1 death recorded, 43 are in hospital, with 5 in ITU

43 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 2,822 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.52%.
Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, an 86-year old woman has passed away while Covid-19 positive.
A total of 43 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, up from 38 yesterday. 5 of these patients are in the ITU.
There have been 80 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 609. The average age of yesterday’s 51 cases was 37.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,380 and there have been 33,944 recoveries and 431 deaths.
1,143,094 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 784,729 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has now reached 404,760.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 12th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 428. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 207.36 from 354.28 in the previous week. Malta is now the 10th highest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
