53 new Covid-19 cases, 50 recoveries and 41 in hospital, 3 are in ITU

53 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,025 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.75%.
A total of 41 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital. up from 36 yesterday. 3 of the patients are in the ITU.
There have been 50 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 667.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,774 and there have been 34,275 recoveries and 436 deaths.
1,162,291 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 791,240 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has reached 409,136.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 19th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 35,380 and the number of deaths showing is 431. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 182.87.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
